Tour to Australia

Horizons Sporting Events is pleased to be involved with this
group of women from the University of California - Santa
Barbara from the USA.
Their tour will be a
great experience, with games in NSW, Brisbane, Surfers
Paradise and Cairns.
"The Gauchos love to travel,
and this trip to Australia will be a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity for most of us," Santa Barbara head coach
Mark French said. "On top of the obvious benefits of
gaining additional game experience, this tour will hopefully
forge even deeper bonds within the team and give our players
the invaluable experience of interacting with a foreign
culture."
The NCAA allows collegiate teams
to travel internationally once every four years. The Gauchos'
only previous foreign tour took them to Europe in the summer
of 2000 where they posted a 5-0 record against club teams from
France, Belgium and Switzerland.
In 2003-04 UCSB enjoyed
arguably the most successful season in school history,
culminating with its first-ever NCAA Tournament Sweet 16
appearance. The Gauchos finished last year with a 27-7 overall
record and No. 19 national ranking in the final USA Today/ESPN
Coaches' Poll. Five freshmen, one junior transfer and one
former Gaucho returning from a two-year absence will join the
aforementioned group in 2004-05 as Santa Barbara seeks its
unprecedented 10th consecutive Big West Conference title and
ninth straight NCAA tourney berth.
UC Santa Barbara's
Lindsay Taylor was selected by the Houston Comets in the
second round of the 2004 Women's National Basketball
Association Draft and then traded to the Phoenix Mercury.
